The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet: Another Scam?
No matter where you look, there is always someone trying to lose weight. If this describes you, I can relate. I have been searching high and low for the perfect diet that will enable me to accomplish my goal. Here is the frustrating part of this search:
I have a balanced diet and I exercise regularly, but it is still a constant battle to not only lose the weight but keep it off. So I’m always on the look out for a new diet plan to help give me a little boost. Since I rule out anything that isn’t organic or natural, you can imagine that doesn’t give me a lot of options! So, when I heard about the apple cider vinegar diet, just the words “vinegar diet” made my stomach crawl a little bit. However, it didn’t stunt my curiosity. I just had to know how an apple cider vinegar diet works.
So, my first question was: What is an apple cider vinegar diet anyway? The answer may well surprise you!
I discovered that any vinegar diet is based on the notion that the acidic vinegar helps your body break down the fats that you ingest before your body can store them. If you drink a couple of tablespoons of vinegar with a meal, the fat never sticks to you. Even though this may sound a little ‘out there’, this method has actually been around for a long time. As far back as the 1820′s doctors were recommending a vinegar diet to help with digestion. The apple cider vinegar diet kicks it up a notch as well. Apple cider contains fruit pectin, which is a different kind of enzyme. Supposedly, it helps the vinegar break down the fat even better.
Obviously, the number one obstacle to overcome will be the taste. There is no doubt that apple cider vinegar is bitter tasting, to say the least! Because of this, most people mix it in with apple juice and honey. There are those who claim that, after they’ve been on an apple cider vinegar diet for some time, they get used to the taste. I guess that would also become a matter of ‘taste’!
At any rate, the question still remains: does an apple cider vinegar diet work? Well, even though there has been no scientific studies made to answer that question, there are those who swear by its effectiveness. Fortunately, it’s pretty harmless to give it a try. Apple cider vinegar is inexpensive to purchase and available in your local supermarket. There are no known side effects to the apple cider vinegar diet if done properly, although the acid in the vinegar can cause ulcers and a deterioration of the stomach lining if consumed in too large a quantity.
So is an apple cider vinegar diet worth it?
As has been pointed out, for some the answer is yes; for others, no. Whether you decide to give it a try yourself, keep one last thing in mind: No fad diet can replace eating sensibly coupled with regular exercise.
