Low Carb Diets: A Good Thing?
Among all of the so-called ‘fad diets‘ out there today, the low carb diet is one of them. Even though varying forms of low carb diet plans have been around for hundreds of years, they have only recently become popular throughout the industrialized world, including the United States of America. In the last few years in particular, it appears that the United States has suddenly realized how overweight it has been getting, and the natural response to this is, of course, diets!
Even though low carb diet plans vary depending on what they recommend and provide, they all basically follow the same general principle. The position is a simple one: you can live without carbs, but you can’t live without protein and fats. While somewhat counterintuitive, since it is fatty protein based foods, like meats, that are often higher in calories, it is a fact that carbohydrates serve no nutritional function whatsoever and therefore can be completely eliminated from your diet without adverse health effects. A reasonable diet of meats and vegetables will provide you with all the nutrition you need without any of those ‘unnecessary’ calories from carbs.
If you have been looking for a good diet to try, consider trying a low carb diet plan. As it is with pretty much any diet plan, a low carb diet plan will most likely result in some weight loss as long as the dieter doesn’t stray from the diet plan. One thing to note: make sure you don’t starve yourself. Whatever diet you try, make sure you follow the diet to the letter. Even though most diets will have you cutting down on food portions, the low carb diet plan concept is a pretty common sense plan. With the low carb diet plan, you stop eating so much refined sugar, pastries, and breads. As a result, you’re likely going to be cutting a lot of calories out of your diet.
With such a large selection of low carb diet plans from which to choose, it is anyone’s guess which plan is best suited for you. It seems like there’s a new type of low carb diet plan coming out every week! What works for some people may be less effective for others. Tried and tested, I prefer the Atkins diet. But as with all diet plans, finding one that works for you can be quite the ordeal. Try something that you think you can do, and then see what happens. Make sure you don’t just rely on the diet alone to lose the weight, as weight loss is more than just what you’re eating. Weight loss is really about your metabolism, so you need to stay active as well. This means exercise; something that most people who want to lose weight are not as willing to do! Just give me the diet part, please!
Regardless, one thing to keep in mind is that low carb diet plans aren’t going to make all your health problems improve immediately. But, combined with other measures like frequent exercise and proper rest, they can help achieve a good overall weight loss plan and get you back on the road to health.
