5 Tips for Staying the Strength Training Course
If you have been thinking about weight training, more currently known as strength training, but have procrastinated, there are some ways to get you on course to a stronger, leaner body.
Most people will never set foot in a gym or pick up a weight as a means of getting in shape. All they want is a shot, a pill, an operation bill (and no pain) to fight the battle of the bulge and the eventual breakdown of the body due to the ravages of age. But this comes with a price that is measured in dollars. With skyrocketing costs of health care firmly upon us, there is another way of ‘paying the price’ that is far less costly to the pocketbook, but still comes at a price: exercise!
Without a doubt, the mere thought of exercising can cause sweat to break out on your brow and increase your heart rate. However, deep down inside you know that you should be taking better care of your body, right? After all, the body you inhabit is all you have and, if you won’t take care of it, who will? So, instead of waiting until you have no other choice but to place your body in the hands of complete strangers yelling out “clear!”, let’s rethink what it will take to both get you and keep you in shape.
What follows are five easy steps to take to motivate you to get and keep that fit and trim body you have always wanted.
Look To the Future
Keep yourself motivated by remembering there will always be parties, weddings, vacations or other occasions that will expose you to friends and family. You want to look your best, don’t you? Keep this in mind when considering skipping exercising and enjoy the positive “oohs” and “ahhs” you will solicit from others at the next gathering by regularly hitting the gym.
Post A Visual
Whether you work on a computer or at a machine, a photo or poster of someone who is physically fit can be a motivator to keep you focused on your own body’s physical condition. After an exhausting day at the job, the last thing you might want to do is hit the gym for a strength training workout. However, by having a picture of what you want to emulate in front of you, the visual of their toned figures can inspire you to keep going.
Clothing That Complements
Most people choose clothes that “hide” the fact that they are out of shape. Honestly, this does not work and we all know it! However, when you are struggling with a workout routine, visualize yourself wearing clothes that aren’t designed to hide but to reveal! Knowing that you can fit into smaller outfits that complement your toned body if you ‘stay the course’ can motivate you throughout the workout routine.
Team Up With A Workout Partner
It is a proven fact that nobody is going to be motivated to hit the gym every single day. This being true, it is also a fact that there are those who are going to be ready to work out when you’re not. Find someone who can pick you up when needed and vice versa. You will also have a partner to hold you accountable to not give up. It’s harder to say no when your partner is ready to go.
Take A ‘Before’ Photo
How many times have you seen those ads that show the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos to sell the idea that their weight loss program or exercise routine works? Well, consider taking a before photo of yourself to reference later on. The weight scales don’t do nearly as much motivating you to continue exercising as seeing your former self in a photo. In this case, a picture truly is worth a thousand words!
Well, there you have it! Add to this list as it fits your individual situation and remember:
Work is not exercise but exercise is work!
